Vegas Weekend Shows With Garth Brooks

Garth Brooks at the Millenium March on Washington, D.C. When addressing a gathering of Nobel Prize winners at the White House, President Kennedy remarked, "I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered at the White House - with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone. " It appears Las Vegas power broker Steve Wynn was thinking along similar lines when he lured the legendary Garth Brooks out of retirement.

Country Music's greatest attraction will begin a series of intimate, solo acoustic performances that will begin Dec. 11 at Wynn’s 1,500-seat Encore Theater. The casino mogul who led the Strip's revitilation over the past two decades with exploding volcanoes and swashbuckling pirate sea battles, knows that more isn't always better. Sometimes it's just more. He and Brooks have agreed to a deal in which the Brooks will play several weekends a month (one show Friday, two Saturday, one Sunday) throughout the year.

Wynn eloquently described the thrill he got from hearing Brooks audition with just a guitar and his voice awhile back after they first started talking about what would become an exclusive, multiyear deal. The casino owner said it gave him a thrill unlike any he’d experienced since the days of the Rat Pack in the mid-1960s; how Brooks was unmatched today in his ability "to walk on a stage and create love with an audience in real time."

That's the energy that Brooks has been creating since he first began performing while he was still in college.

"That's how it started in Willie's in '83, playing a show for tips," Brooks said when he announced his agreement with Wynn. "You do your big arena show, then it's funny. You come back to that and it's come full circle."
